PARENT PREP

Before the session

The most important part of preparing your newborn baby for their photoshoot is to aim to keep them awake for as long as possible prior to the session. Ideally give your baby a bath, let them kick around with only a nappy on, tickle their toes and let them fuss for a little bit.

Please give baby a full feed before the session. When you arrive at the studio your baby will be undressed and may require a top up feed. Top up feeds may also be required throughout the session if baby becomes unsettled. Please bring extra milk, bottles, nappies and a dummy.

I use specifically designed newborn outfits so you don’t need to worry about bringing baby clothes.

Styling advice including parents/siblings

To bring something of your own, look for neutral colours including off-white, cream, stone, brown and soft floral patterns. Warm toned neutrals and textures such as linen, knits and cotton are easy to coordinate, photograph beautifully and give your photos a timeless feel. Dads can’t go wrong in a neutral T-shirt, casual shirt or jumper. Stay away from dark and cold colours such as blue, grey and black as these can look harsh and show up with no definition. Avoid large logos, bold patterns and everyone wearing the exact same colour. Mothers are also welcome to use my selection of beautiful dresses if they wish.

Please complete the consent form below the day before your photoshoot.

During the session

Once you have arrived and we have taken a few moments to get baby settled, I will begin the session by gently wrapping your little one. If you have older ones joining us, we will start with sibling and family photos first. This allows them to be involved whilst they are still interested. They are then welcome to head out for a walk to the shop/park or even home if you live near by - giving us the quiet space we need to focus on baby.

Siblings are very welcome to stay and play with the selection of toys. I just kindly ask they avoid playing with the curtains and jumping on the beanbag, as these are part of the set up. To help keep the studio rug clean and cosy, please remove shoes before stepping onto it.

After the session

2–3 weeks after your session, I’ll be carefully working through your images and preparing your online viewing gallery. Once it’s ready, you’ll receive an email with a link to view all your beautiful photographs and select your favourites. After you’ve made your selections, I’ll complete the final edits, perfecting skin tones and gently retouching any tiny details so everything looks beautifully natural. Your finished gallery can take up to 6 weeks from your session date.
